By now, most provinces have experienced their first brush with winter, reminding us of whats to come. And since it looks like were all going to be spending more time outside, its worth reviewing how to adapt your exercise routine to the cold, keeping in mind that winter workouts demand a totally different strategy than exercising in warmer temperatures.

Its not just the cold you need to prepare for, which can be formidable enough on an early January morning. Winter throws everything and the kitchen sink at exercisers willing to take on its challenges. Keeping in mind that it takes more than a hearty disposition to tackle the ice, snow squalls, freezing rain, snowbanks, wind chill and dark mornings and evenings that make up a typical Canadian winter, here are some tips for everyone who will spend the coming months getting their fitness fix by walking, running, snowshoeing, skiing and skating in the great outdoors.
