A super slimmer from Hamilton has told how she faced two tough battles in 2019.

Audrey Hainey shed more than two stone in weight with help from her Slimming World group, as well as battling breast cancer.

She experienced highs and lows last year when she was crowned The Barleycorn Slimming World groups Woman of the Year after losing 2st 3lbs, but was also diagnosed with the disease.

However, the 65-year-old from Silvertonhill slimmed from 16st 12.5lbs down to 14st 9.5lbs and has now been given the all-clear from cancer.

Audrey, who has dropped two dress sizes, explained: When I first joined the group, I never dreamt that I would be in the position I am now.

Losing weight has made such a big difference to my life. My health has improved, I have more energy, Im happier and I feel more comfortable in my own skin.

Audrey joined Slimming World in May 2016, after feeling unhappy about her size.

She said: I started to put on weight when I retired, and became a lady who lunches, dines out at night, and goes several holidays a year. I tried a number of different ways to lose weight but they usually left me feeling hungry or miserable or both, in fact. With Slimming World, its completely different.

My family and friends are all amazed by how much I can eat and lose weight. I still eat all my favourite meals, like cooked breakfasts, curries and roast dinners.

I just prepare and cook them differently now and they taste so much better. I never have to miss out and I dont have to get hung up on weighing and measuring everything I eat.

Ive picked up so many tips and healthy recipes from the other members at my Slimming World group, too, like how I can still go out for lunches and dinners with my friends, and lose weight a winning combination.

I know it can feel like a big step joining Slimming World because you dont know what to expect, but, right from the first moment I walked into my group I was made to feel at ease, and the support Ive received has been amazing, I look forward to going each week to catch up with all of my new friends I just love it.

Audrey says the friendship she has received from other members of the group has been invaluable.

She said: When I discovered that I had breast cancer, my whole Slimming World family were there for me.

Audrey lost 7lbs in her first few weeks and was blown away that the changes shed made had such a big impact so quickly.

Anita Kerr, who runs the Barleycorn group, said: Im so proud of Audrey. Shes a fantastic ambassador for Slimming World and what shes achieved is nothing short of incredible.

Shes a huge inspiration to everyone in our group and I hope she inspires other women and men in Hamilton to change their lives in the same way.
